What It’s Like Working for Equipaws Pet Services

What’s it like being a pet care specialist for Equipaws Pet Services? It’s probably not what you expect! After 10 years working in Veterinary Medicine as a nurse, manager, and mentor, I’ve gained enough experience to know what it takes to care for animals professionally. So, I used to think being a dog walker or pet sitter was just a fun hobby. However, my opinion has definitely changed since working with Equipaws. There is a whole chain of skills and knowledge that goes into providing the best care for another’s pets– it’s not a simple, mindless task. You need attention to detail, deductive reasoning skills, organizational skills, patience, cognitive abilities, and so much more. It can be challenging; you’re always encountering new experiences, and it is also fun and fulfilling!

 

Equipaws Teamwork Makes the Dreamwork:

The best part about working with Equipaws is that you always have a team to rely on. If any questions, concerns, unexpected circumstances, etc. arise, you can reach out, and someone from the leadership team or your own fellow pet sitters will happily assist. Truthfully, I have never worked for a management team like this one. They are involved and hands-on, ensuring that we can go to them for anything. They also empower us to depend on ourselves and each other by equipping us with the tools and knowledge to be able to do so in our training. You know you can lean on your team for support and guidance, and that your fellow pet sitters will be there. 

Equipaws also provides other resources to ensure we are knowledgeable and prepared for a pet visit or dog walk. The training is thorough and hands-on from day one, and there are also online educational courses on dog and cat behavior, pet first aid, and more. To say you are set up for success would be an understatement. The number of employees who have been a part of this community for years is a true testament to employee satisfaction. At Equipaws, you matter, not only as an employee, but more importantly as a person. I know it’s difficult to believe a company when they say this. I was skeptical at first, too, but Equipaws is different. When management says they care, they mean it.    

 

The Perfect Dog Walker Schedule Does Exist!


Life is full of a variety of responsibilities to adhere to, so you may be wondering how the schedule of a pet care specialist will affect your day-to-day. It doesn’t have to! At least, not completely. As long as you commit to the hours you promised, then they can commit to giving you visits during your availability. Equipaws management handles all the scheduling of pet visits and walks for you; all you have to do is manage your day and time to ensure your visits are completed in their timeframe. 

A lot of time and detail go into their scheduling process; that’s why it’s so important that our pet care specialists follow through on what they offer as their availability. Of course, unexpected life changes or illnesses happen, and that’s understandable. In those instances, management is there to listen and accommodate, if and however possible. But it’s key to communicate this to them promptly so they can tap into other team members to help.

 

The Equipaws Culture

At Equipaws Pet Services, we uphold certain values and beliefs like integrity, honesty, compassion, respect, and commitment. We pride ourselves on maintaining these within our team, from the founders themselves to every new pet care specialist.  But this would be for naught without clear and constant communication. It’s the bonding agent that brings all these principles and more together to create a web of support and community.

I’ve often used the word “community” to describe Equipaws employment, and it’s for a good reason. Communities support one another, there is room for growth and change, and there’s no competition. In a community, you feel the love and care people have for their neighbors, even if they do not know them well. That’s what it is like to work for Equipaws. And not only do they want to see their own community thrive, but they want to help others, too. The management team is always looking for ways to give back and be involved in Miami’s pet community. That’s why Equipaws organizes monthly pack walks around South Miami and Coral Gables, and fundraisers like Woofstock and the Holiday Barkzaar in Coconut Grove for dog rescues. 

 

Do you recommend working at Equipaws Pet Services?

Would I recommend working for Equipaws Pet Service to a friend? Short answer, yes! Longer answer, I absolutely would for a variety of reasons. The schedule flexibility, reliability, and simplicity allow for ease of planning around my busy weeks. I know I am prepared to be successful; thanks to the support, resources, and equipment that have been provided to me since the start. And, most importantly, for the employee care and community that is within this company. If you’re looking for a position that is challenging but rewarding and where you feel seen as a person and employee, then I cannot recommend that you apply to work for this company enough. You won’t believe the difference till you experience it yourself!
