Meet our newest team member, Destiny! She’s a Miami native who’s had a deep connection with all kinds of animals from a young age, and a momma to four dogs and two cats, all boys! She describes them as her heart and soul, who have changed her life in so many ways. They truly are her babies, and she treats them as such (they even get baskets on Easter and stockings for Christmas!). Destiny has carried her love and passion for animals throughout her life; it’s what drove her to get involved with rescue work in her late teens. Little did she know this would lead to an incredible 10-year career in Vet Medicine! Her focuses included patient advocacy, emergency care, management, and education.
In those years, Destiny learned to understand the importance of animal psychology and communication to give her patients an elevated level of care and compassion. She loved teaching her fellow nurses about this method, too. Medicine is not only about treating the condition(s) or preventative care, but it’s also about the patient’s well-being. She believes you have to understand how they’re feeling and communicating to you, which ultimately helps reduce stress, leading to better patient care and recovery. Destiny says, “It’s essential to be an advocate for animals since they don’t have a voice to tell us what they’re thinking and feeling.” Her friends joke around and call her Dr. Dolittle because of how she speaks with animals.When you ask her about Vet Med, she will continue to express how thankful she is for the experience and knowledge she gained from her time. It really shaped who she is as a caretaker and individual. Despite all the positive experiences, including adopting one of her patients, she felt it was time to move on and find a new career that still focused on animal care. We’re happy she found her way to our team!
When she’s not caring for animals professionally, she is usually spending time with and caring for her own boys, usually at a market or event. She ensures they get time to socialize, exercise, and smell all the good smells!
